Kill Bill: Vol. 1 review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 17 February 2011 09:09 (A review of Kill Bill: Vol. 1)

kill bill is more or less my all time favorite film. it is perfect on so many levels that i dont know where to start. i have seen it tens of times...the casting is beyond epic, the music is spot on, Quentin Tarantino's style is unmatched whether its the photography or the dialogue. this is quite the Intense gory martial arts action classic. the main theme is revenge and it is vividly expressed in every shot and every line of the film which has an over all theatrical feel to it, and this only intensifies the highly stylized approach. the fight sequences are very well choreographed, and the actings is top notch. again, i find the films satisfying and almost perfect on almost every level.

Mirror review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 17 February 2011 08:49 (A review of Mirror)

nothing i can say would give this film enough credit. Andrei Tarkovsky is a poet, and he is a poet on film, the film is a bit confusing as some actors play 2 characters. the film is very personal and intimate. it is comprised of seemingly non related scenes depicting memories from childhood. Tarkovsky delivers some of the most striking cinematography i have ever seen, and i can easily say that the Mirror is one of the most visually appealing films ever. the film is definitely not for everyone though, as some might be irritated by the slow pace and almost lake of real events, but i would recommend it to anyone looking for something original and sincere...

Black Swan review

Posted : 13 years, 2 months ago on 17 February 2011 08:41 (A review of Black Swan)

Darren Aronofsky has made a few films where the characters develop similarly... pi, requiem for a dream the fountain, all of those had a bit of a downwards spiral into madness. with his usual formalistic approach the director delivers quite a treat, visually speaking, he returns to his expressionistic style after his endeavor with realism in The Wrestler. Black Swan dramatizes the realm of dancing significantly until the barrier between reality and fantasy seems almost nonexistent. the casting is great, Natalie Portman is amazing indeed, Mila Kunis pretty much plays herself again....the score is nothing short of what we would expect from Clint Mansell.
the films did have its flaws, but all in all the film gets increasingly satisfying as we move towards the ending which seems spot on. this is a solid piece of art to say the least..

Sorry, didn't check out the comment before now.
Yeah, I think we have possible nowadays films which will be influential; Like Avatar.
But for now, there isn't a list with those kind of films, so we just have to wait and see :)

I agree that Elle Driver was quite the character but I still wouldn't put her on that list. Maybe if i'd make list about my favorite bad guys, she would be there ;D

I can see why you didn't find The Lovely Bones to be enjoyable or sad..it's a "hit or miss" type film. Thanks for the other suggestions! I'll look those up.
